MŌHĀ Skinfood

Behind the Vision

mō.hā

1. vs. Fully developed, as a flower; spreading widely, as plants

MŌHĀ in 'Ōlelo Hawaii means fully developed, like a plant in its prime. Similar to our namesake, our mission is to bring you the highest quality ingredients while maintaining sustainability and ethical practices. As a company we hold ourselves and our ingredients to the highest standards and purest quality. Here at MŌHĀ, we believe that cosmeceuticals are a vital part in whole body nutrition. We nourish internally with healthy food, why not nourish externally with botanicals? Skincare is so much more than aesthetics, itʻs a vital part of self care. Our goal is to not only leave your skin feeling its best but for you to feel your best!

You may have noticed that culture and indigenous values are a huge priority to us. In fact itʻs the foundation of our company. Being that our home and much of our inspiration is derived from Hawaii, our values are deep-seeded in the Hawaiian culture and it is our mission to incorporate the essence of the islands into all areas of our skincare line. Keep scrolling to learn how you can help give back!

At MŌHĀ Skinfood, you won’t only find what you need, you'll find what you didn't know you were looking for.

The Momtreprenuer

Behind the Business

Aloha, welina mai (warmest welcome)! Meet the mom, the myth, the legend, founder and CEO of MŌHĀ Skinfood, Alex Shirk. Alex is a single mother living in Maui with her beautiful son, Ahonui. From a young age Alex was always making concoctions with herbs and oils she found in her mothers spice cabinet. Things didn't change much as an adult other than a lot more research and getting more creative as a formulista.

MŌHĀ Skinfood was conceived in a small hotel room on the lush Hāmakua Coast of the Big Island, Hawaii. Alex dreamed up MŌHĀ Skinfood in the small Innkeepers quarters of the Hotel she managed. In addition to being a live-in Innkeeper, she also nannied full time all while single handedly taking care of her 4 month old. Needless to say, she survived on her nightly self care routines of all the concoctions she had created for herself over the years. While discovering the importance of self care, she felt inspired to share that with all women and so she got to work making her dream a reality. She carried this dream from the rural country of Hawaii Island to the bustling urban island of Maui where she further pursued an education in organic skincare formulation and later received her diploma. "This company, like myself, went from seed to MŌHĀ."

"Self care looks different to all of us and skincare has become a vital part of my routine. For me it is no less important than a well balanced diet or talk therapy. It bonds the mind-body connection through conscious touch." -Alex Shirk
